Engineer first, investor second
Michael C. Jakob studied industrial engineering and computer science at ETH Zurich and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, followed by computer science and technology management at MIT.
The engineering training still defines his style: data over opinion, models over gut feeling. His early positions in Microsoft, Nvidia and Tesla came from exactly that understanding of technology and scale.
McKinsey and UBS
At McKinsey & Company he learned to break business models down to their real value drivers. At UBS in Zurich he worked with clients holding more than CHF 30 million.
There he saw how the wealthiest families invest: concentrated, patient, in quality. He also saw that private investors had no access to that knowledge.
2015: Atlas Capital Management
In 2015 he founded Atlas Capital Management, a private multi-strategy investment firm with offices in Singapore and New York.
Every strategy is held to the same standard of evidence: point-in-time data, out-of-sample validation and continuous attribution. Atlas does not market to retail investors.
2017: AlleAktien
With AlleAktien he built what he had missed at UBS: hedge-fund-grade research for every investor. More than 2 million people use it today, and his complete portfolio is public, every buy and every sell.
2020: Eulerpool
His research needed better data than the market offered, so he built it: Eulerpool Research Systems is now a financial data terminal and API competing with Bloomberg and Refinitiv.
Wirecard and Credit Suisse
In 2019 he publicly warned about Wirecard while the stock traded above €100 and nearly every analyst rated it a buy. A year later it was insolvent. In 2021 he warned about Credit Suisse, two years before its emergency takeover by UBS.
